Ballyannan Wood Shoot – 4/5/14

Denis Barry-14

ECCG Group at Ballyannan Wood

A damp morning greeted the members when we met at the Midleton Park Hotel this morning. Keeping an eye on the weather over the weekend to see if the shoot could go on, we decided in the end to ‘go for it’ as we had been rained off so many times already this year. We were glad we did.

The wood, just on the edge of Midleton town, was a treasure trove of plants, trees and graphic shapes and the bluebell crop was in full bloom adding a vivid vitality to the scene. The damp weather had lent its own unique spice to the landscape leaving delicate drops of moisture on the flowers and leaves. Along with the woodland, the estuary shore added another dimension with old boathouses, graffiti and beached timber among the photographic subjects.

Glenbower Wood Shoot – 19/4/14

Twelve members turned out for our group shoot to Glenbower Woods in Killeagh yesterday. We were hoping to see some wildlife but didn’t expect the show to start at our meeting point at The Midleton Park Hotel.

When we arrived at 8am we were met by a duck and twelve ducklings waddling out of the hotel car park and heading for the river. While en route, two of the youngsters fell through a gap in the pavement into a four-foot deep manhole. A shovel was quickly produced, the manhole opened and the two ducklings rescued, all under the watchful gaze of mother duck and the other ten siblings who quacked with delight when they were reunited.

We regrouped at Glenbower car park with the remainder of the group, took the mandatory group shot and set out through the woods. There was plenty of subject matter on display from the flowers and foliage to the stone bridge and river which meanders its way through the woods. A red squirrel was spotted but was unwilling to pose for a portrait while some members got creative with some panning shots.

All-in-all, an eventful morning and a great location.

Ballycotton Sunrise Shoot – 13/4/14

Bill Sisk-4

The main party met at the Midleton Park Hotel at 5.30am and carpooled before proceeding to the pier at Ballycotton where we were joined by the remainder of the party at 6am.

The sun did not oblige on the day but we took a few shots around the lighthouse. As the light did not look like improving we called off the shoot at about 7.30am.

Shoot at Midleton RFC – 12/4/14

Denis Barry-15

ECCG turned out for Midleton RFC’s final home game of the season against City of Armagh in Division 2b. Played in beautiful weather, it was preceded by a downpour which had us scurrying for rain gear. Bill Sisk chanced a shot however, which really captured the uncharacteristic scene:

Unfortunately the home side lost 12-10.

Sunset Shoot at Lough Aderra 6/4/14

Denis Barry-1

Having been rained off of our intended sunrise shoot at Ballycotton on Saturday morning 5/4/14, a forecast of a possible sunset on the following evening soon had our focus shifted and plans were hastily changed. With sunset due at around 8.15pm, the car park at the boat moorings on the shore of Lough Aderra near Castlemartyr, resembled a scene from Photofest with tripods and gear seemingly appearing out of nowhere as the light began to die.

The large group meant that vantage points for the ‘best’ angles were at a premium, so much so that one member’s boots proved too short for the depth of water but, undeterred, squelched on long after sunset. As the sun dipped below the horizon, torches were broken out for some light painting on the moorings which proved to be an ad hoc class in this unusual genre.
