Killeagh Point to Point – 14/01/2018

E.C.C.G.'s first sporting event of 2018 took us to Killeagh, Co. Cork on 14th January for the annual Point to Point racing.

Killeagh Point to Point has been held on the land of Joe and Bernie Hennessy at Knockane, for over thirty years and has one of the best viewing tracks for spectators overlooking five fences. Owners, trainers, breeders, jockeys and the local community all come together on the day to make it one of the most enjoyable events of its kind. There were six races held on the day with between 8 and 14 horses competing in each race leading to some very exciting finishes.

E.C.C.G. members all came suitably attired wearing wellingtons and warm clothing ensuring that nothing was going to get in the way of capturing that special moment despite the ever present threat of rain.

A great day was had by punters and photographers alike and lots of exciting and memorable moments were captured by our members both in the parade ring and out on the track.

Ballyvodock Point to Point – 29/01/2017

Ballyvodock p2p 05-02-17 NLowney-8

On a cold, wet, miserable Sunday afternoon, the p2p bandwagon rolled on to the course located at Ballyvodock, Carrigtwohill for the Pigeon Hill and Carrigtwohill point to point. This race meeting, now in its third year at this location, is organised by the United Hunt and is considered to be one of premier meetings on the southern circuit and was the last ECCG shoot of January 2017.

The course is a left handed track with 6 races being run on the day covering a two and half circuits over 9 furlongs distance per race in an anti clockwise direction with a slight up hill finish. Despite the bad weather, the event was well supported and attracted a huge crowd from the local area to attend this event.

Despite being a cold and very wet day, the unfavourable weather conditions did not deter a few brave ECCG members to attend the event and we were treated to some great action. The exciting race performances warmed up punters and non punters alike.  Some great equine sporting images were captured from the parade ring and track on the day from all angles to say the least with some members braving taking shots from the ground level despite the mucky conditions.

The second ECCG shoot of 2017 was at the Knockane track outside Killeagh where the Killeagh Harriers annual P2P meeting was held for the fourth consecutive year.  Blessed with dry weather and braving the cold elements and mucky conditions, the event was well supported and attracted a huge crowd from the local area. There were six races on the day with three to twenty-one horses competing in each race covering a 9 circuit course over a 3 mile  distance. The last race of the day saw 21 horses compete.

ECCG members were on hand suitably attired in wellingtons and warm clothing to capture some challenging equine sporting images. Some horses fell at the second and last fences in their pursuit of victory. Fortunately all riders walked away unscathed and horses survived the falls.

Some great images were captured on the day including the jockeys and horses in the parading area and jumping over the second and third fence up on the hill area of the track.
