ROWAN THORNHILL – BEYOND THE INDUS

Photographed during three visits to India’s north, Beyond the Indus portrays the diversity and beauty of the people of Ladakh, Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab and Delhi.

Rowan Thornhill is a travel and lifestyle photographer based in Cork, Ireland. He has previously shot for Himalaya Magazine and Suitcase and is a contributor to the Swedish picture agency Linkimage. He has a huge passion for traveling and especially for India and the Himalayas.

In association with East Cork Camera Group, Rowan will give an illustrated talk to accompany his exhibition at the Midleton Park Hotel.

Exhibition opens at 4pm until 8pm.

Cork Camera Group Exhibitions

Our friends in neighbouring Cork Camera Group are really busy at the moment. Not only is their annual exhibition currently running but they also host the exhibition of the 1st Cork International Salon of Photography on Saturday next, 8/2/14.

Cork Camera Group Exhibition 2014

Their annual exhibition opened on Tuesday 4/2/14 at the Cork Vision Centre, North Main St., Cork and will be open to the public to the 21st February. Opening times are Tuesday – Saturday: 10am – 5pm and admission is free. Around 75 images are on display and, as the press release says, they “present a veritable cornucopia of portraits, land and seascapes, wildlife and travel images” with some macro, nude and abstract also in the mix.

Suitably surrounding an extensive model of Cork City, the exhibition is magnificent and inspiring. Make sure you put it on your calendar. Details here.

Meanwhile, the exhibition of the 1st Cork International Salon of Photography, awards ceremony and gala dinner takes place on Saturday February 8th at the Clarion Hotel in Cork City. In addition to the exhibition running throughout the day, several photography seminars, a trade show and a fantastic opportunity for a fun photo shoot for individuals, couples, friends, families etc have been organised. Also, if you bring your camera along, there will be an opportunity available to take some images with an experienced agency model as Pulse Models & Events Management will be present on the day. Earthrise: The 45th Anniversary

The 45th anniversary of the taking of one of the most iconic images of the 20th century occurs on 24/12/2013. ‘Earthrise’ was taken on Christmas Eve, 1968, by the crew of the Apollo 8 mission, Frank Borman, Jim Lovell and Bill Anders, in which humans first ventured to the moon.

ECCG Mini Studio at Market Green SC

East Cork Camera Group were delighted to join forces with East Cork Rapid Response on Saturday 14/12/2013 to help with ECRR’s collection at Market Green Shopping Centre, Midleton.

Members of ECCG set up a ‘mini studio’ in the centre and invited shoppers to have their portraits taken in exchange for a donation to the voluntary pre-hospital emergency service. The public responded very generously and over 230 portraits were taken throughout the day raising over €500 for this extremely important local service.

Many thanks to management at Market Green and the many people who contributed to the collection. Photos will be sent to all in the coming week.

Gathering of Light: An exhibition by Carrigaline Photographic Society

Gathering of Light is a crucial step in the creation of any photograph so it’s a fitting title for Carrigaline Photographic Society’s latest exhibition which opens in Cork Airport on September 20th to coincide with Culture Night 2013.

Society Chairman Dave Keeley commented that “We’re delighted to be back in Cork Airport following our very successful Insights exhibition there in 2012. I’d like to thank Cork County Council Arts department and Cork Airport for their ongoing support. The airport concourse is an outstanding exhibition venue, readily accessible to the people of Cork as well as visitors from over 50 destinations served by the airport. I hope that all viewers of the exhibition will enjoy the eclectic mix of images displayed by the photographers of Carrigaline Photographic Society.”
