Whitegate Regatta – 14/6/15

Whitegate Rgta Noelle Lowney-5

On a bright sunny afternoon on Sunday June 14th 2015, the annual rowing championship regatta, rescheduled from May, took place in Whitegate, East Cork. The Whitegate Rowing Club, a member of the Coastal Rowing Association, were the hosts for the event and member clubs from the region travelled to the village to participate in this very competitive championship event. Some of the well known rowing clubs that took part were Blackrock, East Ferry and Cobh Fisherman’s as well as the local Whitegate club.

Enthusiasts from East and West Cork gathered to cheer on the crews from the various clubs. There were 19 races in total on the day with crews ranging from mixed vets, under12’s, 14’s and 21’s, senior and junior men and women, intermediate men and women and other categories.

ECCG were on hand to capture the event from start to finish from different vantage points around the village including Sawmills Pier, the Whitegate clubhouse and strand.  A fantastic regatta, with glorious weather on the day, was enjoyed by both rowing supporters and ourselves alike.
