RNLI Shoot, Ballycotton – 07/09/2016

rnli-foshea-6

On 7/9/16, ECCG members visited Ballycotton Lifeboat Station in the East Cork harbour town. The wet weather quickly put paid to our grand plans for a shoot however so, after a tour of the lifeboat itself, RNLB Austin Lidbury, we adjourned to the station for a welcome cuppa.

During our visit we were delighted to present the Lifeboat Crew with a cheque for €1,000.00 for the RNLI which was generated through our Cruise Liner / Lusitania exhibitions in Cobh and Aghada earlier this year.

Thanks to the crew for a wonderful visit and great tour.

Sunrise Shoot at Ballycotton – 30/01/2016

Ballycotton SR2 FOS-2

Pushing the club’s ‘Seascape’ theme for January to the limit, we turned out for our fifth sunrise/seascape shoot of the month, on Saturday 30th, at Ballycotton in East Cork, a veritable treasure trove of photographic opportunities and a regular stomping ground for ECCG. With the sunrise due at 8.22am and high tide in just under an hour later we approached the fishing village with great hope as the clear skies appeared to be in keeping with the good forecast.

The beach at the pier faces in an easterly direction which, at dawn, renders the islands and lighthouse in silhouette as the sun rises beyond them. The good swell invited getting in close to and onto the rocks to capture the running streams and breaking waves as the tide filled around them.

With a low band of cloud obscuring the horizon, it took ten minutes or so for the sun to break into clear skies making shooting conditions difficult with the increasing brightness. Nevertheless, Ballycotton yielded yet another fruitful morning and, as the sleepy village began to stir awake, we made our way home happy with our morning’s work.

1st Shoot of 2016 – Sunrise at Ballycotton

Sunrise 03-01-16 AOC-1

After a relatively inactive few weeks due to bad weather, our first shoot of 2016 took us to Ballycotton for sunrise on Sunday 3rd January. 5 members of the group braved the elements, leaving Midleton Park Hotel at 7:30am, and with a favourable weather forecast we hoped for some good colour in the sky.

With Garryvoe beach inaccessible due to flooding we headed to Ballinamona and set up 20 mins before sunrise. Unfortunately heavy cloud which moved in from the west, obscured the sunrise, so it was on to Ballycotton pier and adjacent beach where there is always a shot to be found.

Ballycotton Fireworks Display – 21/08/15

Bcotton Fireworks KDay-1

The Ballycotton Seafood and Shanty Summer Series of Events came to an end last night with a bang.

At around 8.30pm, in anticipation of the inaugural fireworks display, tripods began to appear among the dunes and other vantage points around the village as photographers zeroed in on the launch site. As the clock ticked past 9.30pm and darkness fell across the bay, the first muffled bang broke the silence of the balmy evening and the first rocket screamed skyward. This was quickly followed by a colourful barrage lasting ten minutes or more.

A great spectacle and a fitting end to a busy summer in the seaside village. Well done to all involved.

Gina & The Champions Concert – 31/07/15

Champions Denis Barry-35

Ballycotton was buzzing on Friday night 31/7/15 last when the local stars, Gina and The Champions, took to the stage on the Main Street for an open-air concert – part of the Ballycotton Seafood & Shanty Family Fun Summer Series.

With rain threatening throughout, it held off until the very last song but even that didn’t deter the many hundreds who turned out from enjoying the music and dancing the night away. Well done to all concerned.
