Imokilly Autocross – 15/10/2017

Imokilly Motor Club held its final Autocross event of the year and it was an opportunity not to be missed by members of ECCG. The event was the final round of the Naas Driving Academy, Training Solutions National Autocross Championship. It was also a counting round of the Munster Autocross Championship and also the Imokilly Club Championship.

There was a turn out of more than 40 cars and buggies. Ian O’Connell won on the day with Ian Byrne and Aidan White taking second and third positions. Local brothers, Evan and Aaron McEvoy finished 1st and 2nd in Class 3 respectively. It was a wet and damp day which provided challenging conditions for those taking part and for our members on the sideline.

For the first time since 1998 the East Cork Divisional team, Imokilly,  won the Sean Óg Murphy Cup.  The team was captained by Seamie Harnedy from the St. Itas club.  It is the third win for Imokilly who won in 1997 and 1998 also.  The Final score was Imokilly 3-13  –  Blackrock 0-18.  The goals for Imokilly were scored by Seamie Harnedy,  Cian Fleming from Aghada and Brian Mulcahy from St. Catherine`s. There were 16,000 at the game at this stage “probably” all from East Cork.

The football game was won by Nemo Rangers who beat St. Finbarr’s by the score 4-12 to 3-13.

How I Took That Shot – Finbarr O’Shea

Finbarr O’Shea LIPF, took first place in Grade A and first overall also in our recent ‘Selfie’ competition with the clever image above. This is how he made the shot:

My selfie picture for last week’s competition was a bit of struggle as my first plan didn’t workout so, with a day to go to the deadline, I had to come up with plan B. My new plan was a selfie with a silhouette picture in front of my face.

I took some silhouette head and shoulder shots, with the intention of using the best image. To take the pictures, I stood in front of a white wall with a flash at my back, I set the camera at f22, 1/200 sec. at ISO 100 using at 24-70 mm at 35mm.using the 10 sec timer. I then printed 4 pictures, so instead of 1 picture in front of my face I decided to use the other three as well. That is where the string and pegs came in to play.

So for the final shot with the the 3 prints pegged in place and I holding the 4th print in front of my face, with the flash repositioned to the front, I was then ready for action. I set the camera this time at f11, 1/200, ISO 100 using the 24-70mm at 45mm on a 10 sec timer. I held a cable plunger in my right hand for effect .

After many shots taken, this was the end result.

What a fantastic concept and execution. Well worth its final placings. Well done Finbarr.

How I Took That Shot – Noelle Lowney

Noelle Lowney took first place in Grade B in our recent ‘Selfie’ competition with the shot above. This is how she made it:

The image was taken in the grounds of Curragh chase Forest Park, Co. Limerick.

This competition topic, Selfie, was challenging on its own not to mind being too shy to face the camera.

I took a few test shots first to see how the camera settings worked out. Once happy with the exposure, I placed the camera on a tripod and set the self timer to fire after 10 seconds and take the shot whilst I stood on the bridge.

The shot was taken on a Canon EOS 7D Mark II – Camera settings AV (Aperture Priority), F/6.3, ISO100 and Shutter Speed 1/200.

Well done Noelle.

How I Took That Shot – Jim Curtin

Jim Curtin took first place in Grade C in our recent ‘Selfie’ competition with the image above. This is how he made the shot:

Selfies – what are they?. There were 14 opinions entered in this competition. My one started with a U-Tube show on another competition night when prompted  to do a lookalike of Robert Osborne fine art Photographer. So I grew the beard, got the shirt, had the cap and added the pipe. I set up the corner in the bedroom with a black backdrop and my camera on a tripod.  After an amount of trial and error I had several shots that were workable. The lighting was a side view of natural light with the blind pulled down to kill the light a bit. The use of Lightroom was vital to use the Dark and Shadow sliders.

Camera settings:  Canon 100D with kit lens (18-55) ,1/6 sec., f4.0, ISO 100. I worked the camera remotely with the switch in my hand. No flash used.

Well done Jim.
