The Great Island road races were held on 29/04/2018 starting and finishing in Cobh. Principal benefactors are The Irish Cancer Society and Palliative Care. All told, a sum greater than €150,000 has been donated over the years. It was a fine day with plenty of sunshine. There have been many races in Cobh over the years in the ten to fifteen miles range and a great tradition of local athletes taking part. A shorter race of four miles was held and a charity walk was also a part of the morning activities. Local and international athlete, Sonia O Sullivan, who was part of the organising group also took part. The first three home were: 1. Mick Clohisey, 2. Colin Merritt and 3. Jonathan Murphy. The best lady was Lissie Lee.
