Golden Jubilee – Msgr. Ned Goold, PP, Midleton

Denis Barry-31

Msgr. Eamonn (Ned) Goold, PP Midleton, celebrated the Golden Jubilee of his ordination to the priesthood in 2015 and, on 26th September 2015, he celebrated a special mass for the occasion at the Church of the Most Holy Rosary, Midleton, which was followed afterwards by a social gathering at the Midleton Park Hotel.

As the occasion drew near, ideas for a suitable presentation to mark the occasion, were discussed among the organisers. This brought East Cork Camera Group into the story as it was felt that an image of the Holy Rosary Church, a building that means quite a lot to Msgr. Goold, would be very appropriate. ECCG member, Michael Fenton, floated the idea to us and we were quite sure we would have an image to suit in our archive as we had photographed the church only twelve months earlier.

On Saturday 11/10/2014, during our Photo Walk in Midleton, Msgr. Goold was kind enough to allow us photograph the interior of the church and was in the gallery beside us when ECCG member, Finbarr O'Shea made the image below, a striking and faithful rendering of the beautiful building.

The decision was made and, before long, the image was enlarged on a 24" gallery-style design with appropriate text and finished with a golden frame which picked up the tones in the image and echoed the significance of the occasion. The presentation was made by Noel Ryan of the Midleton Parish Pastoral Council.
