Killeagh Point to Point Shoot – 18/1/2015

Joe Keniry-3

The second ECCG shoot on 18/01/2015 was at the Knockane track outside Killeagh where the Killeagh Harriers annual P2P meeting was held for the third consecutive year. The weather conditions were ideal with bright sunny skies. Despite the cold element and mucky conditions the event was well supported and attracted a huge crowd from the local area. There were six races on the day with an average of 3 to 12 horses competing in each covering a 3 circuit course over a 3 mile distance. The last race of the day saw 24 horses compete the course but only 21 jockeys!

ECCG members were on hand suitably attired in wellingtons and warm clothing to capture some challenging equine sporting images.

Some great images were captured on the day including the jockeys and horses in the parading area and jumping over the second and third fence up on the hill area of the track.

Crosshaven Shoot – 18/1/2015

Denis Barry-3

Following the disappointing 'no-show' of the sun in Youghal last week, we decided to pin our hopes on Crosshaven on 18/1. All the calculators showed the sun rising at approx 8.33am and we judged that if we were at a position north of Church Bay, it would rise just behind Roches Point lighthouse. The tide would be out but if we got a good sunrise, then the state of the tide would be a secondary consideration. Having the theory sorted, all we needed was for the elements to play ball.

With a hard frost overnight, the sky was clear in the early morning giving rise to great optimism for a successful shoot. We took up position around 8am and by 8.15am the glow began to appear in the sky. Right on schedule the sun broke the horizon and we were treated to the most spectacular sunrise - worthwhile to witness not to mind photograph.

Thereafter it was into Crosshaven for a welcome breakfast among the gulls and crows who proved adept at getting their slice of the action while a friendly robin at Camden fort spent over 20 minutes posing for photographs.

Youghal Shoot 2015

Denis Barry-2

On 11/1/15 ECCG revisited Youghal as part of our Blackwater and Lighthouse projects. Arriving early, the sky looked promising for a couple of minutes prior to the 8.40am sunrise but it wasn't to be. Cloud obscured the sunrise and imposed a flat sky for the duration of our visit. Not to be outdone, however, we took to the town where we found some nice people and some great subjects.

Lisgoold Point to Point Shoot 4/1/2015

John Tait-6

The first ECCG shoot of 2015 was at the Lisgoold P2P track in Templenacarriga for the United Hunt's, New Year fixture on Jan 4th 2015. The galloping right handed track situated on a massive 89 acres saw six races over the event that day run over 2 and half circuits with an approximate distance of 3 miles and an average of 10 horses competing per race. The last race of the day saw 18 horses compete.

The teeming rain, drenching mist and drizzle coupled with mucky and muddy field conditions did not deter the ECCG members from attending to shoot at this P2P event. All were suitably attired in raingear and wellingtons to brave the cloudy and wet conditions in order to capture challenging equine sporting images. Some races were a little eventful with some horses falling at and over the fences but, fortunately, none of them were injured that day. Some great images were captured including the jockeys and horses in the parading area and jumping over the second and last fences at the track.

Despite the wet weather conditions the shoot proved to be a worthwhile venture.
